E-Bikes at The Valley

E-Bikes

I went for a ride on my e-bike yesterday morning.

It was a 24 km run, around to the small village of Moawhango. A ride on an e-bike at that time of day through the beautiful countryside of our area in the northern Rangitikei District was something to really put a smile on my face. The release of endorphins must have lasted a while, as when I got a phone call from a friend several hours later, he commented that I sounded very upbeat.

I have had an E-mountain bike for several years and have enjoyed many hours riding it, primarily on the local back roads.

It is no wonder to me that there has been such a surge in popularity for these machines. So many people have rekindled the enjoyment they experienced in their younger days on a bicycle by now riding an e-bike. Some will say that e-bikes are cheating. Don’t listen to them.

E-bikes offer a fun way to get some exercise and fresh air without the pain! Big hills are no longer an issue. When you are nearer 65 years old than 25 years, these are all pluses.

New E-Bikes at River Valley Lodge

We want to announce that you can now enjoy an e-bike experience while staying at River Valley Lodge.

A few days ago, we took delivery of our first e-bikes, seven Giant 2022 Talon E+ 3, with three Liv Tempt E+ 3s still to arrive. These bikes are in a range of frame sizes, from small to X-large. We have helmets, high vis vests, and small handlebar bags accompanying the bikes.

These bikes offer a whole new range of things to do while staying at River Valley.

Giant Talon E+3s

Initially, we are offering the following:

Half or full-day hires – you can explore the local back roads at your leisure

Shuttle assisted rides – where we shuttle you to the Taihape Napier Road. You get to ride the 35 km back to the Lodge through the big country of Otupae and Mangaohane Stations, with, on a hot day, the opportunity to stop for a swim at the Rangitikei River.

Over time we will be adding other rides that follow some of the more picturesque routes in our area.

There are more details of these on our website here.

Coming in The Future

With the first departure planned for March 2022, is a vehicle supported three day ride to Hawkes Bay over the Taihape Napier Road. This journey will include two nights accommodation at River Valley Lodge and one night glamping at Kuripapango. The finish point is De La Terre winery, just a few km out of Napier. We will be announcing the dates for this departure in the New Year.

Also in development are guided mountain bike tours. We have feedback that bike riders often look for new places to ride. Our guided tours would deliver the opportunity to ride over some of the farms in our area. These are big hill country sheep and cattle properties with stunning scenery. To ensure access to these properties, these rides are required to be guided. We anticipate that you could bring your own bike. We will bring further details of these tours over the next few weeks.

I have got to admit, I am pretty excited about what biking and e-bikes, in particular, bring to what we offer. With the options of rafting, horse riding, biking, or simply relaxing, River Valley is a destination where you may want to spend a few days.

Hope to see you over the summer.

Happy peddling.
