Strong intermediate – an intermediate rider who is currently riding regularly (outside an arena) and is comfortable in the saddle for at least six hours per day.
Advanced – a frequent rider who is very fit, has an independent seat and soft hands, and is confident on a forward-moving horse at all paces over rough and variable ground on open terrain.
Conditions:
- Minimum Age 13 Years
- Weight limit 100kg
- This ride is not suitable for beginners
A Desire for Knowledge
Having operated a Trekking business for a number of years, one thing we have noticed is the desire amongst many of our riders for more. Specifically more knowledge.
More knowledge in particular about how to work with their horse for a more enjoyable experience for both rider and mount.
A Home on the Range horse trekking holiday is an experience where you can get to know your horse, bond with it, and feel your confidence and enjoyment improve as you explore new countryside, and undertake rides that have greater levels of challenge.
A Home on the Range Package Is What You Are After
Mix your time spent in the arena or exploring the countryside with accommodation at River Valley Lodge in a deluxe guest room, add some great country style meals, pick a wine from our selection, relax in our spa, and you have the makings of a great break away.

Extra Days
If you are staying longer than the minimum two days, each subsequent day will be tailored around what you would like to do while spending time with your horse. This may include more time in the arena, training with obstacles or trekking over the surrounding hill country. Not forgetting this is your holiday and if you feel like relaxing and soaking it all in there will be lots of undemanding time for both you and your horse. The price of the extra day includes another night in deluxe ensuite accommodation, a 3 course dinner, breakfast and your day of riding.
Fresh Scenes and New Vistas
Each ride will bring you to fresh vistas, with little crossing over of trails you have already ridden.
Rides will be tailored to your ability and progress.
